✿ FLOWER GARDEN ✿
- Deadhead faded spring bulbs to stop them going to seed, but leave the foliage in place so the leaves can still get the sun and give the bulb the strength to flower next year.
- Start feeding plants that look like they need a boost.
- Sow tender annual seeds now for flowering mid-late summer.
- Start making hanging baskets when the frost danger has passed.
✿ VEG GARDEN ✿
Start hardening off frost tender plants.
Once all danger of frost has passed you can plant tomato, runner beans, and French beans outside.
Keep an eye out for pests too as the weather warms up. Try and let nature sort out the greenfly. Birds will often come and pick them off the plants for you, so try and attract the birds into your garden with a feeder, or bird bath.
✿ WILDLIFE GARDEN ✿
- When buying plants for the garden, keep an eye out for ones with a bee or butterfly on the label, meaning they are a good pollen source. Try and avoid double flowers that hide the pollen too well for the bees to get at.
- Birds should be very busy collecting insects from the garden now. Even scaling fences to get the bugs that hide in amongst the fence slats. Keep providing fresh water and food for them, because the bugs will all be for the chicks, the adults will still need food too.
- Swallows should be flying overhead this month, showing us summer is on the way.
